“Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild With a faery, hand in hand, For the world’s more full of weeping than you can understand.”
- William Butler Yeats, 'The Stolen Child'.
Greetings guys and gals and non-binary pals! It is I, Vovin, bringing you wonderful news from Jack o' the Green!
As many of you may know, for a number of years there has been held at Beltane a great hunt. Those that have come to take part in this game have fallen, generally speaking, into two camps. First are the "holies" who produce the May Queen... second, the "hunters" who quest to become the one Oak King by finding the Queen and proving themselves worthy. But what of those that seek not to be King or Queen? What about those creatures that seek only beauty, joy, and mischievousness?
If you are someone that embraces more than the binary of the feminine and masculine in nature, we have news for you! At this year's Wyld Fire Beltane Hunt, the holies and the hunters will be joined by the court of light fae, the Seelie!
Seelie is a Scottish Gaelic name based on a Middle English word meaning "blessed" or "silly." So it is our duty to bless Beltane with silliness (and add a dash of color and style while we're at it). We are one of the two courts of fairies (the other being the Unseelie). In Fall and Winter, the Unseelie who find their way into our realm cause limitless havoc. In Spring and Summer, the Seelie dominate the landscape, pushing through the veil during Beltane bringing extra magick to our earthly realm and the climax of Summer (and still causing some havoc, but we're cool about it). As we spirits and sprites of nature awaken from our slumber, we bring the greens and the bright colors of the wild flowers.. and the fun!
“Come fairies, take me out of this dull world. For I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame.”
- W.B Yeats, 'The Land Of Heart's Desire'.
For those that would like to join the Seelie Court, only a small few will be imbued with the magick of the Seelie! Make sure you bring clothes to dress the part. The holies are easy to spot in their white and the hunters wear red and black. Bring your hunter or holy outfit, but don't forget to pack some green with areas to add sparkly things, sequins, and glitter! Perhaps pack an extra set of faery wings and even unicorn horns, as I so often do (you never know when you'll need to shish kabob someone with a unicorn horn in Louisiana). #sorrynotsorry #thisiswhatfaedoes #enthusiasticconsent
It is important to note that I would love to have everyone join me in the Seelie Court if I could, but I have made a deal, and we Fae honor our deals.I can not tell you how many I will take, but I will hint that it is between 3 and 42 of you! That being said, you may need to prove why you are perfect to join the Seelie. Remember to come to us ready to bring joy, beauty, and a little mischief. I'll be there with bells on... maybe you should too??
